ORCHARD PIG WINS TOP QUALITY AWARD

Orchard Pig continues its recent run of success with a top national award, winning the Local Drinks Award in the Quality Food Awards 2010 for its Sparkling Apple Juice with Ginger.

Now  entering  their  fourth  decade,  the   Quality  Food  Awards  continue  to  be  the   most  prestigious  awards  for  food  and  drink   products  on  sale  in  UK  grocery  retail  outlets  today.

Helen Lyons, from the Quality Food Awards, praised the quality and number of entrants.
“2010  was  a  landmark  year  for  the  Quality  Food   Awards,  with  a  record  number  of  entries  across  all  the   categories. They were also the most hotly contended awards  I  can  recall  in  the  ten  years  I  have  been  involved.”

Each  product  is  carefully  assessed  by  the judging panels,  who  debate   and  discuss  its  merits  across  the  following  criteria:  taste,   flavour, texture, aroma, ingredients list, innovation, packaging,  presentation  and  price  point.

Diane Kenwood, Editor of the awards’ media partner, Woman’s Weekly, was hugely impressed with the range of entries.

“Food  provenance  has  become  even  more important  over  the  past  year,  and  consumers  are  increasingly  demanding  the  reassurance  that  the food they buy has come from reliable, well husbanded  sources.”

The judges complimented Orchard Pig on its Sparkling Apple Juice with Ginger.  “It’s tangy, it’s zingy and the ginger comes through perfectly” said one, while another commented that they loved the ginger taste. “It’s an excellent product, very good.”

Andrew Quinlan from Orchard Pig said “ We use real ginger to give the juice its zip and freshness and all our juices are made from newly hand-picked apples, never concentrate.”

“It’s a great honour to win this award, especially since there was so much very good competition this year, but also because these awards relate to what people actually buy, so it’s a vote of confidence in us that we value greatly.”

There were fifteen Awards in all, and Orchard Pig was delighted to win in its category of  New Business of the Year.

Managing Director Andrew Quinlan said “An award brings recognition to the hard work that everyone puts in and holds up our efforts as an example, giving us confidence in what we are doing.  That in itself is motivating and rewarding, especially as it come from our peers in the Somerset business community.  Hopefully we can use this as another stepping stone in achieving our goals for Orchard Pig.”

Operations Director Neil Macdonald agreed. “We have tried to bring a fresh dynamic to a traditional Somerset business and it is great to see that our approach is appreciated.  The award is not just for us, it’s for the whole team, and particularly our long suffering wives!”

THE GREAT TASTE AWARDS 2010

The Orchard Pig was delighted to receive three Golds at the Great Taste Awards 2010.  Its Medium Sparkling Cider, Apple Juice and Ginger and Sparkling Jonagold Apple Juice were all declared winners in this year’s Awards.

Andrew Quinlan said “ It’s the first time we have won three Golds in one year and we’re absolutely thrilled. The Fine Food Awards are a real benchmark of quality, because each product is tasted by several judges, and Gold Stars are only awarded when everyone is in agreement, so we are honoured to have made the grade once more.”

Neil Macdonald said “It always comes down to the quality of the raw ingredients and we’re improving on that year by year in our orchards.  Our techniques and understanding are getting much better too so its great to see that someone thinks we’re doing it right!”
